Susannah Smith is a Sydney-based writer, editor and sometime arts curator. She is the Editor of Look magazine, the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Members’ magazine.

Susannah works closely with artists and galleries to produce specialist texts for exhibitions, websites and journals. Besides her regular writing for Look, she has written for Australian Art Review, The Australian Journal of Ceramics, Runway Journal of Australian Experimental Art, Curium, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, The Courtauldian and Courtauld Critics. She has written exhibition and artist texts for Olsen Gallery, Stanley Street Gallery, Home@735, Interlude Gallery, Art Pharmacy and many private artist clients.

Susannah holds an MA in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London (University of London) and a BA in Art History and Theory (Honours) from the University of Sydney. She has worked at the Art Gallery of New South Wales as Deputy Editor of Look, Acting Assistant Curator of European Art, Assistant Registrar for Works on Paper and as Editor for the Foundation. From 2017-2020, Susannah and Heather Tralaggan ran Collab Gallery, a curatorial initiative to promote local NSW artists through exhibitions and arts projects.

Alongside her work in the visual arts, Susannah enjoys writing fiction. In 2016 she was the winner of the Success Tax Professionals Short Story Prize and took part in Interlude Gallery’s Writers’ Program.
